This week we discuss wide ranging topics from calls for a rewrite of the French constitution, the sixth republic, and.. Smurfs.
And there's an extensive segment into the cultural relevance of the classic custard dessert, Flanby (link below). And even though it all links into politics we can proudly say WTFrance is now basically a food podcast.
As promised, the Flanby link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanby

and avoid getting Liz Trussed, mashallah). Further questions I have about the car-driving scenario: do you ever ask the wannabe new driver if they have a driver’s licence? Is: ”Not really, but I came first in the test, got 71... uh... I mean... 180 out of 577 questions right!” a good enough answer? ”No, you didn’t, the fash came first, but can’t let them drive, they’re drunk.” ”Yeah, well... Mélenchon calls her ”ma petite Lulu”, that’s the only driver’s licence she needs!” The End.

after an election in which by that logic around 2 thirds of the Parliament is right-wing? from the minority that failed to even get 30%? Can’t wait to hear the remains of NUPES use that argument against France’s first black PM if he gets Bouamrane and Geoffroy to coup Olivier Faure and form a coalition with rump LR and Ensemble... (Still the funniest, most vintage, undistilled Macron outcome and one that would allow France to continue to borrow money on the capital markets to pay the bills

the 2022 elections whining about how OMG UNDEMOCRATIC it is to not instantly name Prime Minister a person who never featured in the campaign of the coalition that has *180* MPs and no way in to pass a budget? Nor get it past the Senate, another legislative chamber in which the left is an uber-minority?Speaking of undemocratic... if Macron is so right-wing (extremedruaaate même, but tbf, according to LFI, so is Fabien Roussel),Wouldn’t it be undemocratic for Macron to name a left-wing PM

I’m no French constitutionalist, so I went and read some who are: there’s nothing in the Constitution that forces a President to name a PM who has no majority. There’s also no precedent for cohabitation with a wider coalition which will probably include the presidential party. European coalitions take anywhere between 6 weeks to 2 years to form. The German coalition negotiated for 6 months. Why are some of the same people who called Macron’s relative majority with 250 MPs illegitimate after

I used to listen to them too for a while, but unfortunately that while coincided with EU elections and hearing them talk about the EU (rarely, but nearly always plumbing new depths of incompetence... seriously, WHY are French journalists like this about Europe??) or The Economy was physically impossible after a while. There’s only so much clownery I can enjoy on topics I’m familiar with (same goes for reading The Economist and most EU coverage in anglo media, French journos aren’t special, tbf).

(It’s fine that it exists on this insane level of Paris-centric hyperpartisanship for the opposition especially in state-owned media, because Bolloré exists, so... it’s FINE! What else but wall-to-wall performative miserabilism and celafoteàmacron do you expect to hear from the public radio/tv between two sessions of coupeurs de feu, comploplo hydrologists and sending people to ”osteopaths” for urinary tract infections?)

You do have comments on the podcast page, but it’s incredibly annoying to use, especially when in a hurry and with no time to switch between languages on the phone, apologies for the horrible spelling! And they censor the word g a y. I’m g a a a a a a y, there! My friend will be delighted to know you enjoyed RWFlanby. Through her and others I’m used to hearing what bounces around the echo chamber walls of the Le Monde editorial page, france info, inter, etc.
