Politics are winding down as the French go on summer holiday.
We discuss how Macron suggest an older white man as potential prime minister, the 2025 budget, how a 2014 debate about France building an aircraft carrier for Russia might become relevant again, and naturally we discuss the upcoming.. grape harvest.
For the first time in weeks the Paris Olympics barely come up!

Bonjour! Thanks for listening & commenting! I think we address your comments in the podcast. And as you probably noticed from our talk in this weeks podcast we had not actually realised had a comment function. :-) I’m trying to wedge in more cat related items but tbh French politics are relatively devoid of cats.. -Pepijn

Couping Faure from the inside in the middle of their ”summer school” with a ”frondeur” who’d help PS escape el líder mínimo would be more entertaining, but whatever it takes to pass that budget, I guess.

high-profile réac in LR. Most of them just seem to go with the flow, marriage is now the law of the land and there’s no culture war points to grift at national level from it so they don’t care anymore. (I’m LGBT, btw...) OK, this still ended up sounding a lot more pro Right Wing Flamby than intended, lmao. I’d like to think it’s pro intellectual honesty and hope he’s once more ridiculed in his Pick Meeee! girl antics.

force in the country and the biggest group in the AN is the RN, etc. etc. etc. Also, following the LR consensus on marriage in 2013 is not an issue for most because they’ve either said they’ve changed their mind, admitted they were wrong, or pretended they were for it all along (like some of their PS counterparts...) so they can work with Macron and his many, many LGBT ministers, or said they regret nothing and stayed marginal (Zemmour and Bellamy). I suspect Bellamy is the only honest

designating Wagner as a terrorist group. LFI has repeatedly voted against or abstained on sending aid to Ukraine. I was going to type: ”I can’t believe you’re making me defend Right-Wing Flamby, lol”, but I don’t actually think it’s wrong. I can despise the LR and think both RN and LFI are worse and point out their respective current position on Ukraine and why they’re not comparable. Partisanship doesn’t have to come into it. Same for pointing out that, unfortunately, the number 1 political

He’s been a consistent supporter of arming Ukraine. 2014 Mélenchon toed the Kremlin propaganda line by calling Ukraine a fake country, basically. Russia is France’s ”natural ally” (shared that view with most of LR probably), later on called for a ”Bolivarian alliance” with Russia and Iran, etc. 2023 Melenchon instructs his MEPs (it’s not a party, there is no internal democracy, there aren’t even party members, le Republique c’est moi, etc etc) to vote against designating Wagner as a terrorist

abolutely not comparable to Mélenchon’s track record of anti-Ukrainian positions. 2014 Bertrand wanted to make money off of Russia like every other LR. That was the party line he shared with Hollande (and with the vast majority of the EPP... also, ask Poland how much money it spent on cheap coal from occupied Donbas during that era). It was a stupid, greedy, short-sighted party line, but it was the consensus. 2023 Bertrand called to send Leclerc tanks to Ukraine.

”wishy-washy” is just mindblowing to me. I know partisanship does this to people, but you sound like the type of reasonable Europeans who can take a step back and realise that checking the Ukraine voting record of LFI MEPs alone blows a hole in the ”wishy washy” argument. Here’s why ”right-wing Flamby” (to quote a French friend) would have no problem getting nominated as PM (and getting burnt then discarded after voting a budget, IF he’s chosen) from a Ukraine perspective and why it’s abolute

Bonjour from a first-time listener of your podcast. :) It was an interesting experience and I absolutely love your suggestion to have cat athletics included in the Olympics. OUI !!! My first (mild and hopefully constructive) criticism is to point out that the Olympics aren’t over, I can’t wait for the Paralympic games to start and I hope France will embrace them with similar fervour. My second is... err... I’ll just be blunt: describing Mélenchon’s anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia positions as:
